Disclaimer: Queer as Folk is the property of Cowlip and Showtime.
A/N: These are translations of german drabbles I wrote some time ago. Unfortunately I had to abbreviate them because they had more words in english than in german. I think they lost some quality because of that but I hope you still enjoy them.

Of peach blossoms and coffee beans (# 5 “happy”)

She tasted like peaches and smelled like coffee.

So completely different than Callie.

He liked it.

When they pulled away they just looked at each other. She smiled as she wrapped her arms around him and kissed him again.

Her lips were warm and eager. He buried his fingers in her hair. It was thick and soft. He felt her petit body against his and closed his eyes. He felt as if he were in a peach grove surrounded by coffee trees with warm sun shimmering through the leaves. She tasted like coffee and smelled like peaches. He felt happy.

Portrait of my best friend by Justin Taylor (# 47 “beautiful”) – Hunter’s POV

He was astonished as he stood in front of the picture. He swallowed when he saw her dark eyes which sparkled with a lust for life. The wind ruffled her curly hair – it stuck away in every direction. She tried to tame it but it was hopeless. She realized it in exactly that same moment and laughed about it. He could almost hear her laughter as he found himself drowning in her eyes. He felt the same way he did the first time he saw her, and it made him speechless when he realized again just how beautiful she was.

These drabbles are post season 5 and all about Hunter/Daphne. The first four are Daphne’s POV, the last five (after ###########) are Hunter’s POV.

"Realization"

Love had come quietly. Unexpectedly love had snuck into their hearts. When she saw him for the first time, she didn’t expect to fall in love head over heels. He seemed so very young and in her eyes he was only Michael’s son – nothing more. Hunter saw it differently and began to court her. She felt it was ridiculous and sweet and romantic at the same time. She would have never thought that he could conquer her heart. It took weeks before she realized that she actually loved him. But realization alone was not enough to make them a couple.

*

"Despair" (# 25 "rejected")

AIDS! Four simple letters. She couldn’t get the word out of her head, and every time she thought about it alarms went off. She panicked but it was already too late. She loved him! They became a couple but not a happy one. They argued and yelled at each other. It was too much pressure, way too much responsibility! She loved him and could not bear it. When she separated from him her heart broke. Love had been never their problem but it wasn’t enough! Not enough to make it work. This realization hurt, and she hated herself for it.

*

"An old flame..."

Two years wasn’t a long time, but it seemed to her like a whole life to her. She had returned to Pittsburgh because of her new job. She couldn’t let that chance get away. It was clear that a meeting would happen sooner or later. What she had not counted was to meet him by accident on the street. They looked at each other and her heart beat rapidly as their eyes met. In the fraction of a second she knew that she still loved him. The old feelings crashed over her like a wave and she was helplessy drowning.

*

"... never dies" (# 37 "hopeful")

Time had been her friend – she had grown up when she was away from Pittsburgh. Therefore she couldn’t hide herself any longer. The feelings for Hunter were still there. She had suceeded in burying them in her heart but she was never able to finally banish them. The strength of these feelings had frightened her, but had not come as a surprise. However the situation seemed hopeless. She had broken his heart. Fortunately, Justin let her know that he didn’t hate her. So she gathered all her courage and continued what he had started many years ago – she courted Hunter.

"Second chances" (# 36 “guilty”)

Everyone gets a second chance, right? Ben and Michael gave him one when no one else would. That saved his life! It had allowed him to become the man who he was today. When he met Daphne he again felt the long gone sharp pain. He looked her in the dark eyes and saw guilt in them. Guilt, and something else that flashed briefly and then disappeared as quickly as it had appeared. For few seconds he hated her because of the way that she had left him. But then sadness overcame him because he understood only too well why.

*

"Regret"

Time helped him to recognize his mistakes. When he reminisced about himself and Daphne it was with a sense of melancholy, and an awareness that they both had made mistakes. They had been too young and too inexperienced at how to live in a real relationship. The disease was just the straw that broke the camel’s back. Today he was able to see that, but back then he was blinded by anger and pain. Daphne was the first woman with whom he wanted more – he wanted a future together. And despite everything he still regretted not having fought for her.

*

"One must earn second chances (# 7 "easy")

Everyone deserved a second chance – she did too! It was amusing to him the way that she courted him. He recognized it because she did all the things that he had done for her. Flowers, presents, talks. She sought out ways to be close to him. And although it was kind of unpleasant and odd in the beginning their talks helped to rebuild the old friendship. But friendship was no longer enough. He smirked to himself. He wouldn’t make it easy for her. But he already knew that he wouldn’t refuse her a second chance if she asked for it.

*

"For each other" (# 44 "optimistic")

And she really did. It was simple when she asked for his forgiveness, and it was exciting and heartbraking when she confessed her love. That moved him and the kiss which followed said all that he hadn’t been able to put into words. They clung to each other as if a physical separation would cost them their lives and soft warm lips met again to search, taste and feel. They wanted, even needed to try it again because they felt both clearly that they could be for each other what they had always wanted. Perhaps love was enough this time.

*

"At night" (# 44 "relaxed")

His hand caressed her body, stopped gently on her hips. He felt her warmth and moved closer. Her face was only few centimeters from his and he studied her relaxed features. His fingertips moved with a feathery stroke across her forehead, moved over the hardly visible scar at her temple where she had fallen from the monkey bars. He loved the moments he realized how much she meant to him. She opened her eyes dozily and he smiled. When she saw him she smiled back and curled up in his arms. They held each other while drifting off to sleep.
